In general I have been a console gamer (Xbox 360) and been a huge Halo fan, but recently there has been an MMORPG that I have played the trial of and loved (LOTRO). Would it be wise to continue playing both, or should I choose one? My main concern is free time (a few hours a day, except on weekends) and money, the average game being $60 and the monthly subscription being $15.Is it wise to be a double gamer?If you are playing purely for exploration and fun do both. I am a real life pilot and I use MS Flight Sim 2004 regularly to practice various instrument procedures such as published departure procedures, approaches, and holds. For the most part, the instruments function the same as the real thing, even in more advanced aircraft with flight management computers/flight directors that you program exactly the same way as you do in the real aircraft.



The biggest thing that's lacking is an interactive air traffic control and even that can be done in MS FS 2004 using VATSIM if one is so inclined (but at that point, you might as well just go out and fly for real IMO).

However, for a retired pilot, what you really need is Flight Simulator plus some of the ultrarealistic add-on aircraft sold by companies like PMDG, Level-D Simulations, or Dreamfleet. They are accurate enough to keep a retired pilot happy, and they can definitely help with staying in practice for things like instrument flight. You can get add-ons like this for all sorts of aircraft. PMDG and Level-D, for example, specialize in add-ons for "big iron," such as 737s, 767s, and 747s. Companies like Dreamfleet or Carenado specialize in add-ons for small general-aviation aircraft, like Pipers or Cessnas, or Bonanzas. They are all very good, and the add-ons are designed by expert software developers who also work with real pilots and technicians to make sure that the add-on behaves like the real thing.



So get MSFS (I recommend FS2004 rather than FSX, but either will do), get some realistic add-ons, and your pilot friend should have a ton of fun flying around under Instrument Flight Rules. Instrument flight, incidentally, is what desktop simulators simulate best.



If he wants to practice with radio communication, too, have him join VATSIM once he gets the sim and add-ons. He can then talk to real people acting as controllers online, following real-world procedures. I really enjoyed the first Lost in Blue game although I never did make it to the end (I always get sidetracked with another game). At first it seems like there is no objective but that will change as the game progresses.



Brain Age was fun for awhile, but I lost my copy of it somewhere in a public place. I recently got Brain Age 2, which is a lot like Brain Age, and is somewhat refreshing after playing the usual D.S. games.



This may be a silly animal game, but I found Pokemon Pearl to be better than I first thought.



There is a game called Meteos that is like Tetris but better.

Guys (including myself) find it hot that a girl plays games because it means that they have something greatly in common. Girls tend to think badly about games(gamers), whether they be boy or girl but just acknowledge it as a boy thing. It's not that a girl playing a game makes her hot. the girl is already sexually attractive and being into what boys are into just generally makes them more appealing. perhaps because it then means the boy won't feel like a huge geek from his girlfriends scrutinizing eyes, or maybe they see it as another way to spend time together. Am I getting ripped off? Please help!!?

OK. We just moved in to this house in a quite nice neighborhood. The previous owner had a security system with this not so famous small company called "broadview" and left the system in the house. Upon researching and inquiring about the service by phone with Broadview, I decided to go with ADT since they are more famous and monthly fee was about the same. ADT rep came out a week ago and took a look at the system and said that there will be no instllation or reactivation charge since we can use our system and still get it monitored by ADT, So it would be only 26.99 a month no other charge. We signed the contract that states that monthly is 26.99 and no installation charge for the system. Yesterday was the installation day and ADT installation guy (different guy) came out and tried to activate our system and said that they need the master installation code from the Broadview. he called the guy at Broadview and asked for the master code so that ADT can activate the system... and the guy said he does not want to give that out and he seemed upset (cuz he recognized it was my house and he remembered me calling him a week ago and that i didn't go with his service) so ADT told me that my option is either to go with the Broadview since it's their system and since they won't give us the code, OR install the ADT system brand new through out the house for $200 and he offered 20% discount off of that. Do you think they are messing with us or is this pretty normal? As I said above, We signed the contract before instllation (three days before with a sales rep) saying that we will do monthlly monitoring but on the contract the instllation charge was 0... We are upset and we are reconsidereing if we need the security system... Can I tell the sales rep that I don't want the service anymore since we didn't know about the new unforseen installation charge? What would you do if you were me? I feel that I was fooled by ADT and they are trying to get me into selling their product.. I still have the yard sign that ADT brought yesterday so I think I am ok with the yard sign only... Will they take the sign away if I say cancel it? The rep told me to call him back by today and I'm planning on saying that we need additional time to think about our option... or should I ask for 0 installation fee because they gave me misinforamtion that they could just activate my system and now we are in bad terms with broadview since they now know that we were going to choose ADT over them? They do need the code, and Broadview doesn't have to give it, since it's technically their equipment.



You need to decide whether you pay ADT the installation plus the monthly fee, or pay Broadview just the fee. It is Broadview's equipment, after all.



Trust me, if you go back to Broadview they will take you back, with no hard feelings.Am I getting ripped off? Please help!!?
ADT does need the code, and they were as upfront with you as they could be, they probably assumed that Broadview would give the code they didn't.



Your agreement probably also says something about using 'existing equipment'. Unfortunately, they are unable to do so.

Both companies answer the alarm by calling your phone number, then the police if you don't answer.



I really wouldn't have a problem going with the smaller company, you may find that because they are small, they offer more personalized customer service.



Ask them if you can sign a 6 month contract, and at the end, if you aren't happy, they will agree to give the master code to the security company you choose to replace them.

My illegal neighbors keep trying to shoot down my American flag! What should I do?

Ok, not a brief history, I live in southern Minnesota in a town where I was born in and have lived my whole life in. We have always had a large illegal Mexican population in our sanctuary city, but in recent years it has gotten to the point where one in three people are illegal.



My house is in a neighborhood where 25 years ago it was a quiet, neatly kept homes, lawn and street full of elderly white retired folks where you were safe to leave your doors unlocked at night.



Now it is a loud, run-down, dirty, and dangerous neighborhood full of illegals and resembles a Mexican ghetto! With the exception of my house and property which now resembles a clean and neatly kept home, but also a fenced-in fortress!



The fence I put in three years ago after illegal neighbors kept coming onto my property to use my clothesline while I was gone, and damaged my bird-feeders that I hung on, and around the clothesline.



Anyways, a six foot chain-link fence with locked gates now surrounds my property, as well as reinforced doors and windows on my house and garage, 16 video surveillance cameras/recorders outside and around my property and 12 inside the house, a panic room/armoury, and of course a home security/alarm system from Broadview Security. All of which I have invested many thousands of dollars on over the years. No way I would still be living here without all this!

I have done this everyday since 9-11. With few exceptions, weather, blizzards, sick days, ect.



All the illegals over the years never gave me a problem about it except for some of them staring at me and the occasional dirty look.

The new illegal neighbors that moved in right across the street from me this year are a rowdier group.

They come and go at all hours of the day and night, at least twelve people living in a three bedroom house. Many of them sit on couches on their front lawn, drinking beer and playing loud music from dawn until dusk.

In the morning some are always out front when I go out to raise my flag, as I do they hoot and holler, catcall and whistle. Which I ignored for a long time, but it grew to really annoy me as it seemed disrespectful to a patriotic moment. So starting a couple months ago I carried out my boombox with a CD of our national anthem "The Star Spangled Banner" and played it as I raised the flag in order to drowned out the whooping and catcalls from across the street. This only riled them up even more and drew more attention to me so I stopped. But it did not end there, none of the men ever did anything and still have not, but starting a few weeks ago they sent over a juvenile, maybe 16 or 17 years old across to harass me, knowing he would likely not get in trouble, and not much I can do as he stays on the public sidewalk and never even touches my fence. He does speak good English, either an anchor baby or he was brought here at a young age. I can't say much good about this kid, as he was raised to be a fierce racist, I cannot even begin to list the racial slurs he has said to me!

After all the "You don't belong here man!' and "Go back to Europe" crap, I told the kid to knock it off from now on or I would call the cops on him.

And the very next day holes are shot through my flag from a pellet gun. Nothing on my security videos of course, it was shot at from off my property. A few days later I heard more pellet shots and called the police, my flag was undamaged this time and the cops just drove around and left! Lots of help they are!



The final straw! The same little jerk shot my flag again last Sunday with a paintball gun and totally ruined it! Again I called the police and nothing was done an no one had seen it happen!

Call the INS. If that doesn't work kidnap them, hog tie them and drop their *** off in the oil filled gulf. No one will know they are gone because they are illegals.

I live in California and a few years ago an illegal hung the American flag in front of his house upside down. There was a group of people who actually pulled over in front of his house outraged that he did this. He quickly took it down! Illegals have no respect for the US.



I say call the paper or news station, Americans will not put up with it if they know this is happening!
What "I" would do in your case, and what is legal are two different things... I had a similar event... I had Mexicans living next to me in a city rowhome in Baltimore once, every Saturday and Sunday morning about 10 am they strted playing Circus music real loud... well it was loud UNTIL....

I happened to have aowned a nightclub, and had the sound system from it in my basement... So I put in some really good techno and turned up the many thousands of watts of power over my 6 EV Eliminators, and literally cracked the plaster walls in thier house... I only played it for about 5 minutes, then shut it down and went out onto my porch to water my plants and to see how they reacted...

Well needless to say they never played their circus music loud ever again... I guess they were SERVED.....

As for them shooting my flag (If that happened to me) I would likely have them visited by some very nasty mean Bikers, who eat Mexicans like it's lunch... however mnay it would take, it would be done... and for relative little compensation too...

Where I live some illegals were shooting real bullets into the street. I called the cops and I told them they were hiding in the projects. The police were too afraid to go in there so they ignored me.

I live in a sanctuary city that does not allow people to own guns. So only the criminals from the projects are allowed to own and carry them cause the police are afraid of them.

Haha... well I would say have a friend of yours pull up at your house in a shirt that says INS, but if it's just 1 well a) he might get attacked and b) they know INS won't do anything so why bother... but it would be funny. On a more serious note, doesn't it suck that there a TONS of groups out there to protect minorities and illegals but no one there to protect you. You can't do anything seeing as he is on public property and he is a minor, unless you have a minor who can and is willing to beat him up haha. Anyway, It's a total disgrace that they come here FREE and ILLEGAL and can destroy our flag like that. Only thing you can really do is report it to the police, but it sounds as if the police are even scared of them. Maybe there is a neighborhood watch group or some thing that you can talk to - maybe they have meetings and advice as to how to deal with nasty people like that.

Edit: A lot of neighborhood watches encompass a large area, so even if you live off the beaten path from them they can and will drive by your house. I live in the Ghetto... and my neighborhood watch people make sure to drive past my house daily, even though I live off the beaten path. It's something to look into. The only other advice and I hate to say this is move. I don't think you should have to give up your home as a legal citizen, but if they harass you it might be worth it. I can honestly say they are scum and need to go home!!!!

Has anyone had success with the Aid & Attendance Benefit offered by the VA?

The Broadview Retirement Glendale, CA (http://www.thebroadview.net) is hosting a kind of seminar on October 16, 2010 on how elderly war veterans of the U.S. military can get up to $1600 per month to cover the cost of a retirement home or an in-home care provider if they qualify. That means $1600 on top of their pension or social security. From what we've heard it is an in-depth application process that can take 3-6 months but there are organizations that receive grants to help people through the application process for free. The organization we called said it was actually illegal to charge for help in completing the application. It sounds like free money and free help in getting the free money. Has anyone had any success with this program and was it anywhere close to a $1600 monthly benefit? The details are on the Broadview website under "war era veterans".Has anyone had success with the Aid %26amp; Attendance Benefit offered by the VA?
I am a VA Accredited Claim agent and have been assisting vets for approximately a year with the benefit. It is correct that no one can charge a Vet a fee for assistance with preparing or filing a claim, however, you may find their are people from the financial industry that offer to provide free seminar. In doing so, they are identifying those with assets that they may sell annuities to and may money that way. In addition to not charging a Veteran or surviving spouse a fee, an interested third party can not pay a fee in any form to an organization in exchange for assist helping a potential VA benefit recipient with the claims process. The VA considers flat amounts per application, advertising fees, subscriptions, or donations of any kind from an organization who would stand to gain financially from the proceeds to be interested and this is illegal.



As far as free money goes, it's not as simple as that. The claimant must qualify based on needs, income and assets and must remain eligible by submitting an annual eligibility verification report to the VA each year.



AWG Veteran Services a division of Aging with Grace, has a 100% approval rate to date and the average length of time from submission of a claim to a favorable outcome is averaging 62 days with the shortest wait time being 11 days. A%26amp;A is a benefit for veterans and their surviving spouses. The dollar amount is about $600-ish. There are variables to that that will/can increase that amount. A good service officer can have the claim walked through for veterans or SS that are 65 or 70 yrs +. I did an A%26amp;A claim on 18 Sep 2010 and it was approved today as a matter of fact.

If this is for a SS - don't forget DIC if allowed.

House was broken into.Any tips?

My house got recently broken into.They took my new flat screen tv and my ps3, I was upset to say the least lol. So it made me want to have some sort of security system in place.



How My house was broken into:

I came home and noticed my fron door was open.I thought i left my door unlocked and the wind blew it open. Then i noticed that the glass on my door was broken. I have a really dumb door with a major security flaw.It is a big wooden door with about 12 small glass panes in the door itself with 4 on each side running vertically.They broke one of the panes near the lock and stuck there hand in and unlocked the door.

I live with my mom and she is the house owner.She dosent feel to atiment or too serious about makeing the house more secure.I say this because she dosent want to fix the main flaw of our security here at the house which would be the big door withabout 12 acess points to break to gain acess to the lock.

My house is set up as to where I have an inside porch.So that means you walk down the block,go up my 10 foot sidewalk to enter my indoor front porch which is fully visible to the street. My Porch door is also a wooddoor with a big pane of glass which has this very sturdy lock.I think this would of maybe prevented it because i doubt there going to break a big peice of glass in full view of the street and other people house. But they came onto the indoor porch because the front front door was unlocked then they came to the big wood door with all those glass panes,broke a pain closest to the lock and walked upstiars and took my ps3 and flastscreeen and i assume drove off.

So this is why im asking my question which is should i go through a company like ADT,Broadview,simplx a company that offers that type of service where the house is monitored at there central location then alert you and the proper emergency service if they detect a problem or should i just build my own system and try and make the house more secure.

I would be freaking out if someone did that to me. Make sure you lock both the inside and outside doors.



Best is to not make yourself a target. You have to be more secure then the guy next to you. Don't advertise new stuff you get by placing the box at the curb for the trash men to get, cut it up and put in into a bag so people don't know you just got a new tv.

A new front door is rather expensive. but a dead bolt with a key on either side may work but is a fire hazard. The last 2 houses i bought made us take them out to get our use and occupancy.



There is nothing you can tape onto a window that will make it unbreakable. it may contain the shards of glass but not stop someone hitting it trying to get in.



A lock on a bedroom door is a joke, the door itself is usually make out of cardboard, if you hit it with your shoulder you will go through it.



Usually what makes a good lock is how hard it is to pick. the security of the lock has more to do with the door jam than the lock itself, You will not break a lock but you can break the thin piece of wood that stops the dead bolt rather easily. You can kick in many doors. Make sure the metal plate where the dead bolt goes into has 3 inch or more screws that make it to the house structure and not just screwed on the door jam with those tiny 3/4" screws.



Having a security system where you have a dvr in the house is only so so. If someone breaks in and sees the cameras they know they have to take the dvr too.



Maybe you can talk your mom into getting a dog, they scare a lot of people, and may make enough noise to alert your neighbors if you are being broken into.



But the best way to avoid being broken into is to have good neighbors. If you know everyone on your street and question people in your neighborhood you don't know it goes a long way to keeping crime away.House was broken into.Any tips?
To stop the thief in the way that they entered your house the last time you could use a deadbolt that needs a key to operate on each side. You could also purchase some security stickers and place them on doors and windows. Make them think you have a home security system.

Am I getting ripped off? Please help!!?

OK. We just moved in to this house in a quite nice neighborhood. The previous owner had a security system with this not so famous small company called "broadview" and left the system in the house. Upon researching and inquiring about the service by phone with Broadview, I decided to go with ADT since they are more famous and monthly fee was about the same. ADT rep came out a week ago and took a look at the system and said that there will be no instllation or reactivation charge since we can use our system and still get it monitored by ADT, So it would be only 26.99 a month no other charge. We signed the contract that states that monthly is 26.99 and no installation charge for the system. Yesterday was the installation day and ADT installation guy (different guy) came out and tried to activate our system and said that they need the master installation code from the Broadview. he called the guy at Broadview and asked for the master code so that ADT can activate the system... and the guy said he does not want to give that out and he seemed upset (cuz he recognized it was my house and he remembered me calling him a week ago and that i didn't go with his service) so ADT told me that my option is either to go with the Broadview since it's their system and since they won't give us the code, OR install the ADT system brand new through out the house for $200 and he offered 20% discount off of that. Do you think they are messing with us or is this pretty normal? As I said above, We signed the contract before instllation (three days before with a sales rep) saying that we will do monthlly monitoring but on the contract the instllation charge was 0... We are upset and we are reconsidereing if we need the security system... Can I tell the sales rep that I don't want the service anymore since we didn't know about the new unforseen installation charge? What would you do if you were me? I feel that I was fooled by ADT and they are trying to get me into selling their product.. I still have the yard sign that ADT brought yesterday so I think I am ok with the yard sign only... Will they take the sign away if I say cancel it? Broadview security is not a small company. they are nationwide. They used to be called BRINKS Home Security. They changed there name about a year ago. Just stick with broadview.Am I getting ripped off? Please help!!?

This is an easy one - DO NOT GO WITH EITHER! It's true that ADT purchased Broadview (formerly Brink's) in May of this year, so this it completely bogus, the games they are playing with you.



Here are the main points:

1) ADT is not known for their service level. Just do some on-line research on your own to check out their reviews. Broadview (especially when Brink's) had better service, but outdated technology. See next point.

2) The reason you want a different company is that the only safe system is cellular, meaning it does NOT depend on a phone line or internet connection that can be easily cut by an intruder. If either company offers cell monitoring, it is a big up-charge for equipment and monthly fee.

3) You also want the latest features, and neither company offers them: cellular monitoring for no extra fee, same for fire monitoring, remote arm/disarm. email and text notifications, special apps for smart phones, and even video and smart phone functions. Don't buy the past!

4) You can get upgraded new equipment and affordable monthly rates from other providers who offer more - so you are not stuck by any means.



The worst part about your story is that these two companies are now combined, yet act like they are not. That speaks to integrity - and you really want to trust your alarm company!

It's bad marketing to associate your product with a very polarizing opinion, no matter what it may be. Advertisers don't want to alienate anyone. If you listen to Fox News on XM radio you'll find that all the ads are targeted specifically at older business owners, usually male. Commercials tend be for gold, small business loans, IRS issues, prostate cancer and macular degeneration. I'd be very surprised if I ever heard a commercial on there for the new album by Ke$ha, you know?

In this commercial, a mother and a child are playing outside in their back yard, meanwhile a man is casing the house.

The mother and child walk into the house, so the mother can fix the child lunch

When they walk in the door they turn on the alarm



Why?

Why do they need the alarm on when they are in the house,

If they are really that concerned, why was the alarm not on when they were outside.

If it were me, I would have it on both times. This way, if you have a huge house and someone breaks in on the other side of it the alarm would go off (assuming of course you didn't hear the break in) and the other thing to go along with those weird commercials...I would not want the call center person calling me, thereby tying up my phone line when I want to call 911 RIGHT NOW. I know they are going to be sending help but I would be in the state of mind that I need to make that call the second it happens.Does this commercial make sense? Or is it faulty logic?
The alarm probably wasn't on when she was outside

cause that could just be an inconvenience for her to turn it off

when she went back indoors, which I don't see anything wrong

in that sense, for 1 she is outside so if something happened

she could yell and be heard or someone could see that she is in trouble and help/get help. 2 she can also easily see if someone is walking around her neighborhood or coming to her front door and see the cars that are driving around the street.



But once she is inside no one could really hear her or see what she is doing, and she can no longer keep an open eye on what is going on in outside. So she turns on the alarm, for added security for self assurance.



With home invasions on the rise while people are at home it does make perfect sense. I have some friends that do work on the police force and I have heard some horror stories from them, about people just walking into houses while a mother and a child were home alone

and luckily the woman was able to call the police.



But anyway the commercial does make sense if you read the news and actually think about it

I'm not sure why they are officially boycotting the show, but it must be political somehow. I didn't here Glen Beck call Obama a racist, but I know I've heard many liberal talk show host call Bush an idiot, or a murderer, etc. Calling Obama a racist on national TV was probably not the smartest thing he ever did, but I don't think it is that big of a deal.
