Not sure what to do, old pc broke down (motherboard). Started building a new pc, all I need now is a new hdd and OS and I am done. What I need from the old hdd (32bit IDE 350GB Wind XP) are picture files, music files, video files, important word doc's,bookmarks ext...no programs but not sure if to go XP or Vista. What would you do?Is DirectX10 worth transferring from XP to Vista if you consider yourself a gamer?Depends on what games you'll be able to/looking to play. If you've got a High spec machine then it would probably be worth it so you could experience demanding games with a high level of visual detail to their fullest, games like Crysis and FarCry 2.
If its not going to be up to the task then I'd reccomend sticking with XP as its less of a recource hog.
Also heres a list of current DirectX10 games that are currently out. Theres only a handful though really so if none of them interest you then again I'd stick with XP.

This site has comparisons of both.Is DirectX10 worth transferring from XP to Vista if you consider yourself a gamer?no, it's not worth it at all, and by the way, the page that alex directs you to is 3 years old, and those shots are simulated.
