What is the best intel processor for a gamer?

Intel庐 Core鈩? Extreme Processor QX9775What is the best intel processor for a gamer? The absolute best you can get for a desktop would be two quad-core Core 2 Extreme processors. There are two problems with that, though. One, there aren't many motherboards out there with two LGA-771 sockets, so your selection is limited. Two, once you do find one, it would be ridiculously expensive (~$3500-4000) for both processors and the motherboard.

The next best thing to dual-Extremes would be one Core 2 Extreme, or if you don't want to shell out for the Extreme, just a Core 2 Quad. The Extreme has the advantage of having an unlocked multiplier, so you could probably overclock a 3.0 GHz Extreme up to 3.5 or 4 GHz without any problems (though you'll need some serious cooling power to keep it from overheating). The Core 2 Quad has locked multiplier, but you can still raise the FSB speed to squeeze a little extra processing power out of it.What is the best intel processor for a gamer?
Definitely the intel 45nm quad cores. (Intel Core 2 Quad E9450, E9550) For gamers having a quality video card is more important than the CPU. You can have the fastest CPU in the world and still not be able to run games at a descent quality without having a good video card. What is the best intel processor for a gamer? The Quad core is good but games don't need quad core CPU.they need dual core with higher clock speed.if you have a Main board that support 45nanometer CPU you can buy E8400 or E8500 from intel but if your motherboard dont support 45nanometer CPU and support 65NM you can buy E6850.all the CPUs that I said Have 1333FSB you should check your mainboard. What is the best intel processor for a gamer?
Dual Core: E8500 or E6850

Quad: Q9450...or, if you like a great deal...a $189 OEM Q6600 from NewEgg...with a big @ss ASUS Triton 79 HSF on it. :-) Oops, forget the Triton 79, it was limited edition (3,000 I think) and I must've gotten the last one or so.

Just in case you want to see what a real monster HSF looks like, check this out:

Gee Legend...there is no such thing as an E9450 or an E9550...there are Q9450s and Q9550s though...the latter is a binned 9450 sold to fools who are willing to pay about a $200+ premium for what I can do with my Q9450 with a very minor FSB kick, LOL

Don't waste your money on an Extreme...they are just binned processors with an unlocked multiplier...and that ain't worth $1,000 to $1,500.What is the best intel processor for a gamer?Their quad cores
